Mainau island Mainau is a real paradise with its warm climate and lush flora. The Germans call it the “Island of Flowers”. Big role for the glory of Mainau plays Fyurst Nikolaus von Esterhazy, who as owner of the island and a connoisseur of exotic flora, experimented and planted many tropical plants, including palms and flowers. Over the years the owners of the island were many different counts, kings, dukes… and they all manage to keep the wealth of Mainau, adding new types of plants. Today if you visit the island several times during the warm seasons, each time you will see the island different and blooming. Lindau Island Lindau includes a long history – throughout the first century AD the Romans built their homes on the land of the island. In 1180 was built the very first Christian church – the Church of St. Stephen’s, which nowadays is probably the main attraction of the island. Today Lindau draws in visitors with preserved medieval town. You can visit there the church of St. Peter, the doorway to the lighthouse and also the Bavarian Lion, the cathedral “Unserer Lieben Frau”. A stroll across the old streets will uncover the doors of history and can guide you to the medieval reality.
Reichenau Island Reichenau is renowned for its architecture, which these days is guarded by UNESCO. The monastery of the island is essential for Christian culture, as in the past possessed an abundant library and beneficial manuscripts. Existing underneath the protection of the royal court, the meaning of Reichenau is enlightenment. The visitors could see paintings and miniatures inside the churches of the monastery complex – “Mary and Mark”, “St. St. Peter and Paul” and “St. George”.
